| Narrative: |
In 1826 Horace Stevens was
married, no children, living next to his widowed mother Eunice, living
alone, and brother Abel Stevens Jr. with 11 members in the family.
Horace had left home by 1835, and by 1837 they had been living for two
years on the shore of Lake Michigan, half way between Michigan City and
Chicago. Built a dam and sawmill at this location. Unfortunately it was erected on unsold
Indian property which had been retained by the Indians, and he lost his
investment. He moved with others of the family to Perry, 8 miles from
Naples ILL. Horace died in 1838. The children are said to have lived
with the families of Dr Uriah Stevens, an older brother of Horace.
Horace Stevens was the youngest son of Abel Stevens Sr. |
