Stories of current or recent interest to the family will be posted as they are made available. If you have a news story please type it up the way you want it to appear and identify yourself. Send it as an email or attachment and it will be put on as soon as possible. Subject matter is not restricted, special events your family may be involved in, accomplishments, or something you want to celebrate and share with the rest of us. Yes, you can even brag a little.

The success of this page is going to depend on you reporters out there. I'm not much of a reporter but I can put your story on this page. This page is very important in our efforts to keep the family connected. If we know what is going on in the other families we feel like we know them. If we will follow up with an email or phone call, we will know them. So come on cousins, help me kick this thing off with a story from each of you. A good start would be a summary of what has been going on with your family for the past 10 years. Let's see how many of our paths crossed and we did not even know it.

20 Sep 04: Karen Carson Smith Re; Carson Family I am sad to inform you that my mother Virginia Carson passed away on September 12, 2004. Virginia was married to my father, Loyd Carson, (Odie Houghton's oldest son) for 49 years. Please keep my family in your thoughts and prayers and especially for my father. Thank you, Karen Smith.

Virginia Lee Rice born April 9, 1934 in Peggs Oklahoma. Born into a family of fourteen children of which she was the eleventh child. Moved to California at a young age. Married Loyd Elton Carson, December 3, 1954. Three daughters - Janie Meek of Vacaville California. Carlene King of Waterford California, and Karen Smith of Sasakwa Oklahoma. Four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Two surviving sister's, and two surviving brothers. Died at 10:00 AM Sunday, Sept 12, 2004 in Modesto California. Buried in Lakewood Memorial Park, Hughson California on Sept 15, 2004

25 June 04: Derl is back again. Sorry I have not maintained the site since my last entry. One reason is that I did not get much input regarding news. I do need to make some updates and add some sad news.

I regret to inform the family that we have lost one of our generation. For those who have not heard, Roy Dale Houghton passed away 4 May 04 in Corpus Christi after a log illness. He was cremated. My sincere condolences to his wife Charlotte and his wonderful family. Also to his brother Benny and sister Virginia. We love you guys.

I had an opportunity to grow up around Roy. He was my age and we shared a lot of good times in our early years. I met his family in Tulsa and stayed with them for a couple of months when I moved there. I treasured seeing him and getting to know his family. They were very hospitable and I enjoyed my time with them. We occasionally ran into each other through our life. He was a nice guy with a dry sense of humor that made you laugh. Roy did not miss much as he was very smart in a practical way. He loved his family. Our best to them. Those wanting to contact his family may do so through the email on this site. I will forward all messages.

25 June 04: A late entry re; Correction for Randy Lee Houghton information. Randy Lee wasn't buried. He was cremated and his wife has his ashes. Kordale (Randy's son), who was also shot by the person who killed his father, has been battling constant visits to the hospital. His immune system is still very weak and he often gets infections in his lungs (bronchitis and pneumonia). He is a strong little boy and continues to make progress at last knowledge..

25 June 04: Derl Houghton; I have a new grandson, Eric Houghton son of Gary and Jess Houghton. He is 6 months old now, a carbon copy of Gary.

13 June 03: Derl is Back; Well, I'm back. Sorry for the down time. A lot has happened since I last maintained the site. I have been recovering from some medical problems but am good to go now. I have moved to Perrin, TX where my brother Lester lives and bought a double wide and placed it on his property. We are now neighbors. I hope that means that he can help me maintain this site as well. A lot has happened around the family since my last update. I will try to recap some of it.

13 April 03: Derl Houghton has been sick again; Hello everyone, I (Derl) have been sick again and have gotten behind in posting known news about the family. I had some more intestinal malfunctions. I had a colonoscopy last week and had 8 large polops removed. Results of biopsies are not in yet. Upper GI tests show some other blockage in small intestines but tests are also not completed. I am feeling better but I have neglected to work on the family web page. Sorry about that. I also transferred the web page host to a local source. We were off the air for a couple of days in that process. Sorry I have not talked to anyone on the Yahoo family Group in a couple of months as well.

13 April 03: New Baby - Tim Houghton family: We rejoice in the joy of a new Houghton in the form of Cadence Oceana Houghton (Means The Rythm of the Ocean), Born at 3:30 A.M., at SouthCrest Hospital in Tulsa, OK, 21 March 03. She weighed 7lbs. 10.4 ozs. and 21 1/4 inches. Tim was able to cut the cord and assist in the delivery. Congratulations to Tim and Carol and extended family. She is a beautiful child and a very nice addition to a beautiful and wonderful family. Note: For those who don't know Tim, He is the son of Orville and Judy, and grandson of CM and Ruth Ellen Houghton.

5 Feb 03: Update on condition of little Cordell Houghton, the child that was shot when his father was killed by a gunman that invaded their home in Roswell, NM. Judy Houghton has reported that the many months of rehab is beginning to pay off. He is now able to take a step with someone holding him. This family needs our prayers and support. Cordell is the Grandson of Lee Houghton and Ernest Houghton is the G-Grandfather. Lee's son Gary was killed by the gunman along with other emergency responders. May God be with this young man in this long road to recovery.
