Pioneers in the eastern part of
Mayfield Township, near where the two branches of the Kiskwaukee River
flow together, needed a place to lay their dead in the early 1840's.
They chose the top of a
hill over looking the river
to the east and northeast. Unused for over 60 years its cracked and
broken stones give names as well as dates on the births and deaths of
some of this section's earliest white settlers.
