*  Notes for Caleb Clawson:  He was a Sergeant in Major Jessup's Rangers, Loyalists in the American Revolution. Members of Jessup's Rangers were the first settlers of Augusta after the war. Lot 33, concession 1 was a grant to Caleb in 1802. He built his house in an architectural style favored by the early pioneers of Augusta. Homes and barns were built the same way; the first floor was underground and access was from the second floor at ground level. A story goes that this house was used as a paymaster's office for the troops stationed along the river. More old coins have been unearthed here than any other place on the river.

* Notes for Ichabod Closson:  He was a farmer residing at Charlestown, RI. He describes his farm and mentions his four daughters and wife. He gives to the heirs of his son Caleb, five silver dollars; if they came for it within one year of his death. His son John was sole Executor and had the Estate after debts and bequests to daughters and widow were made. After debts were paid and terms of the will executed the farm was sold on March 30, 1793. Ichabod's Homestead was still known as the Closson Farm in 1916.

Notes for Caleb Closson:  In 1721 he was living in Rochester, Plymouth County, MA where he held interest in his father's estate after the death of his mother. It is unknown what he did for a time as no records so him in the vicinity until his return to Washington County, RI.

* Notes for Josiah Closson: The first record of Josiah Closson is at Woburn, MA., in 1776 when he was a soldier in King Phillips war for that town. It is speculated that perhaps he met Captain Timothy Williamson during the war and moved to Marshfield, MA. This is where he met and married Mary Williamson, daughter of Timothy Howland and Mary Howland. Two of his eight children were born here.  About 1682 he followed Col. Benjamin Church, the leader of the Plymouth forces in King Philips war, who had started a settlement at Little Crompton, RI. It is here that the other six children were born. Josiah died at the age of 44. He had amassed 37 acres in that part of  Little Crompton called Coxet, near the RI and MA dorder.

He died in battle around the first of August, as he was buried 6 Aug 1676 in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Marshfield, MA. His will was offered for probate 2 Nov 1676. He was licensed as an In-keeper in Marshfield, MA.
