The following genealogy pages contain information we currently have
and starts with Joseph and Hanna Houghton who raised 5 children. It is
believed that all of them were born to them. It is believed that Joseph's (1770) father was Oliver but details are not developed yet.

JOSEPH
1770 (Raised 5 Children)
Rueben 1798 Recently
found. It is believed by some, this branch is of our Jonathan's
brother Rueben. So far, only "John Henry Houghton's (Son of Rueben) Descendents"
have been discovered. All of Rueben's children was orphaned at a young age and
it is not known what happened to them but alleged that a son, John Henry, went
with some of his mothers family to Utah.
* It
should be noted that there is no official documentation such as birth
certificates or other recorded documents to substantiate that our Rueben is the
same Rueben as the those descendents of John Henry that migrated to Utah. It
would appear that several factors appear to be the same. A representative of
that branch has expressed concern that adding them to this page as actual
descendents may perpetuate what they consider a possible myth that their
Rueben's father Joseph is the same as our Joseph. It is my decision to leave
this branch on the site as a legitimate branch of the Joseph (1770) Houghton
Family until we can come to a viable decision regarding the authenticity as
descendents of our Joseph. Please keep in mind that it is possible this group
may not be actual descendents of our Joseph.
It is true that no official records
has been discovered yet that verifies that Joseph (1770) and Hannah, were the
parents of their Rueben. Some family genealogist have searched diligently but in
vain for records to validate this possible connection. However according to
Jonathans Family Bible, an annotation lists Joseph & Hannah as parents of
our Jonathan. This new found branch lists a "JOSEPH" as their earliest
known origin but his wife is unknown.
The remembrance and connection to
Rueben's family has been maintained in family lore and passed down via letters
and word of mouth. That lore includes information not annotated in John Henry's
branch genealogy record but names and birth dates and marriages appear to be the
same. It appears that it might be helpful to place special emphasis on tracking
down records on Rueben's orphaned children in an attempt to tie them together in
some way. This will need additional research and all help is appreciated.
