Narrative:	Derl is retired from 30 Years of Federal Service (Navy, Dept of Labor, & Dept of Defense). Degrees in Fire Science and Safety Engineering. Worked as Fireman, Law Enforcement, Safety Engineer. Currently Retired & Self Employed as Owner of Houghton & Associates Consultants (Safety Consultant). He and his family are members of the Church of Christ. Has 6 Children and 13 Grandchildren. His greatest accomplishment is to have successfully raised his children without major incident. He loves, cherishes and is dedicated to his children and grandchildren. He is a sensitive, caring, and compassionate person and places great value in his personal relationship to his family origin and treasures the wisdom received from family members in a continuous line back to his grandparents, all of which have made an impact on his beliefs, work ethic, and personal pride. He is typical of the traditional Houghton Family Motto: "In Spite of Wrong" He believes that when things go wrong, one must make the best of a bad situation by turning it into something good, and never look back. He taught his children the value of a dollar, good work ethic, responsibility, and that "everything has a place and should be in it".

1960 Married Tommye Jo Waters, Produced a Daughter: Melissa Jo Houghton
Marriage was short term and I did not have an opportunity to raise my daughter nor know where she was taken. Consequently I have no photos of her when she was growing up. We did finally connect when she was grown. The photo's I have of her is after she was grown and had children of her own. She has two sons (Chase and Taylor). Melissa & Billy divorced and she has remarried and has a daughter (Emily, born in 2001).
